The Surface Pro is a tablet first and a laptop second, which makes it lovely to carry and awkward to repair. The screen is glued to the chassis and everything else is reached through it, so most repairs start with lifting the display safely. That’s exactly the job we do every day.
Laptop assessment is £45 + VAT and we’ll give you a fixed quote before any work starts.
Common faults we fix
- Cracked glass or dead touch – the glass and digitiser are bonded to the display, so we replace the full screen assembly.
- Battery won’t hold charge – or the screen starts lifting at one edge, which is a sign of a swelling battery.
- Not charging – faults with the Surface Connect port, the USB-C port, the charger or the charging circuit on the board.
- Type Cover not working – a dirty or damaged connector on the tablet edge, or a worn keyboard cover.
- Pen not detected – often a digitiser fault after a drop rather than the pen itself.
- SSD failure or upgrade – slow or failing storage, or more space for your files.
- Won’t turn on – we carry out board-level repair for power faults.

Why screen work needs care
Because the display is held on with adhesive, it has to be warmed and lifted slowly. Rushed jobs crack the new panel or tear the thin cables underneath. On a Surface with a damaged screen, we also check the battery while it’s open: a swollen cell pushing on the display is a common reason the glass cracked in the first place. If yours is bulging, stop charging it and bring it in.
Storage on the Surface Pro
From the Pro 8 onwards, and on the Pro X and Pro 7+, the SSD sits behind a small access door, so swapping or upgrading it is quick and doesn’t disturb the screen. On the original Pro 7, getting to the storage means removing the display. Surface drives are usually encrypted with BitLocker, so have your recovery key from your Microsoft account ready. If a failed drive held work you can’t lose, ask about our SSD data recovery service.
FAQs
Is it worth repairing an older Surface Pro?
Usually, yes. A new battery or screen costs far less than a replacement tablet. We’ll tell you honestly if a repair doesn’t make sense.
Will I lose my data?
Screen, battery and port repairs don’t touch your files. We’ll tell you in advance if a repair involves the storage.
Can you fix my Type Cover?
We’ll test both the cover and the tablet connector. If the cover itself has failed, replacing it is often the cheapest fix.
