Dell Precision laptops are mobile workstations, bought for CAD, 3D, video and data work. When one fails it’s usually holding up a project, and its professional graphics, large memory and multiple drives make it more involved to repair than an everyday laptop. We repair Precisions at component level in our workshop.
Laptop assessment is £45 + VAT and we’ll give you a fixed quote before starting.
Common faults we fix
- Graphics faults – artefacts, driver crashes or the NVIDIA professional GPU no longer detected.
- No power or no POST – diagnostic LED codes, a dead board or a failed power circuit.
- Overheating under load – throttling during renders, or fans running flat out.
- Swollen batteries – a lifting trackpad or a base that no longer sits flat. See laptop battery replacement.
- Charging faults – USB-C charging ports, and adapters that are underpowered for the machine.
- Screen faults – including high-resolution and colour-calibrated displays.
- Keyboard and hinge damage – typical on laptops that travel daily.

Graphics and cooling
A Precision’s GPU and processor share a cooling system that works hard during long renders and simulations. Dust and dried thermal compound let temperatures climb, and months of running hot can lead to graphics faults. A full cooling service is often the first step when a Precision crashes under load. If the GPU itself has failed, we diagnose it at board level rather than guessing.
Memory, storage and your data
Many Precisions have several memory slots and more than one NVMe drive, and some 7000-series models use Dell’s CAMM memory modules. We’ll match the right parts to your model. If your Precision holds project data, tell us when you book in. Drives are often encrypted with BitLocker, so have your recovery key ready, and if a drive has failed, our in-house SSD data recovery team can help.
