The Vivobook is Asus’s mainstream range, used for study, home and office work. The faults we see are mostly wear and accidents: hinges that crack the casing, keyboards that stop responding, charging sockets that work loose and screens that get broken in a bag. They are usually straightforward to fix and far cheaper than a new laptop.
Common faults we fix
- Cracked or blank screen – LCD and OLED panels replaced. See our laptop screen repair page.
- Broken hinges – a stiff hinge can pull its mounts out of the lid or base, leaving the screen wobbly or the casing split.
- Keyboard faults – missing keys, keys that do not register, or liquid damage.
- Not charging – a loose barrel socket, worn USB-C port or charging circuit fault.
- Slow and failing storage – SSD replacement and upgrades, with your files moved across.
- No power – board-level diagnosis rather than an automatic motherboard swap.
- Battery problems – short run time, not holding charge or a swollen battery.

Hinge damage on thin laptops
Hinge problems are one of the most common Vivobook repairs we see. The hinge is screwed into small plastic or metal mounts, and if the hinge stiffens with age, opening the lid puts the strain on those mounts instead. The first sign is usually a creak, then a gap appearing at the corner of the screen. If you catch it early, the repair is simpler. Keep using it and the mounts break, and the display cable can be damaged too.
Memory and storage
Many recent Vivobooks have memory soldered to the motherboard, so it cannot be upgraded later. Most still have a replaceable M.2 SSD. If your laptop feels slow, a larger or faster SSD and a fresh Windows installation often make a bigger difference than people expect, and we can move your files across. If an SSD has failed with files still on it, our in-house laptop data recovery service can help.
FAQs
How do I know which Vivobook I have?
The model code is on a label under the laptop, usually starting with letters such as X, M, K or S followed by numbers. Send us that and we can check parts.
Is it worth repairing a budget laptop?
Often. Hinges, keyboards and chargers cost much less than a replacement. Laptop assessment is £45 + VAT and we give a fixed quote, so you can decide.
Do you repair Zenbooks?
Yes. See Asus Zenbook repair or the Asus brand page.
