Dell Latitude laptop repair

Latitude laptops are the workhorses of countless offices, schools and public sector teams. Dell has moved its new business laptops to the Dell Pro name, but Latitudes will stay in service for years yet, and keeping them running is usually far cheaper than replacing them early. We repair them individually or in batches, at component level where needed.

Common faults we fix

  • Swollen batteries – common on Latitudes that sit on chargers or docks all day. The touchpad lifts or the base bulges.
  • Not charging from the dock – worn USB-C ports, dock firmware issues or a charging circuit fault.
  • Cracked or failed screens – including touch and privacy-screen panels.
  • Keyboard faults – worn or dead keys, coffee spills and backlight failures.
  • Hinge damage – loose or broken hinges from years of daily opening and closing.
  • SSD failure – replacements with data moved across, or recovered if the drive has failed.
  • No power – board-level diagnosis and repair.

Models we repair

  • Latitude 3000 series, such as the 3440 and 3540
  • Latitude 5000 series, such as the 5440 and 5540
  • Latitude 7000 series, including 2-in-1 models
  • Latitude 9000 series premium models
  • Rugged Latitude models
  • Older Latitudes, including E-series machines – see our older Dell models page

The service tag on the base tells us the exact configuration Dell shipped. If you are booking several machines, a list of service tags speeds things up.

Batteries in always-docked laptops

Many business Latitudes spend their lives plugged into a dock, at full charge, warm, all day. That is hard on lithium batteries, and swelling is one of the most common faults we see on them. A swollen battery can push the touchpad up, crack the casing or, in the worst case, catch fire, so pull it from use and replace it. Dell’s BIOS includes charge settings that limit how full the battery is kept, and enabling them on docked machines can help batteries last longer. See laptop battery replacement.

BitLocker and board repairs

Most business Latitudes have BitLocker turned on. After a motherboard or TPM-related repair, Windows will usually ask for the recovery key before it starts. Make sure your IT team has the keys for any machine you send in. We are happy to talk directly to your IT contact, and our business computer repair page explains how we handle fleets.
