HP Pavilion repair

The HP Pavilion was one of the most popular home laptops for years, and there are still a lot of them in daily use. HP has moved its new consumer laptops to the OmniBook name, but Pavilions remain well worth repairing. Most faults we see are wear and tear: hinges, batteries, charging and an ageing drive.

Laptop assessment is £45 + VAT and we’ll give you a fixed quote before any work.

Common faults we fix

  • Broken hinges – the lid wobbles, the bezel pops open or the hinge has pulled its mounts out of the case.
  • Cracked or faulty screen – standard and touchscreen panels. See laptop screen repair.
  • Not charging – a loose barrel jack, a worn USB-C port or a charging fault on the board.
  • Battery wear – short runtime, or a swollen battery pushing up the keyboard.
  • Very slow – an old hard drive or a nearly full disk. Fitting an SSD often transforms it.
  • Keyboard faults – dead or sticky keys, frequently after a spill.
  • No power – traced and repaired at component level.

Models we repair

  • HP Pavilion 14 and Pavilion 15 – the standard clamshell models
  • HP Pavilion x360 – 14- and 15-inch 2-in-1 convertibles
  • HP Pavilion Plus and Pavilion Aero – the slimmer, lighter models

Older dv-series, g-series and earlier Pavilion models are listed on our older HP models page. See all our HP repairs.

Pavilion hinges

This is the fault we see most on Pavilion 15 laptops. The hinges are screwed into small plastic mounts in the lid and base. Over time, a stiff hinge puts so much force on the mounts that they crack, and the hinge starts to tear the case apart each time the lid opens. If your lid is getting looser or the screen bezel is starting to separate, stop opening it fully and get it looked at. Rebuilding the mounts early costs much less than replacing a lid that has split, and it stops the screen cable being damaged too.

The x360 and touchscreens

Pavilion x360 models fold right back into tablet mode, which puts extra flex on the screen and its cable. A touchscreen that has stopped responding, or a display that flickers at certain angles, is often a worn cable rather than a failed panel. We check both before quoting.

Making an older Pavilion fast again

Many Pavilions shipped with a mechanical hard drive. Swapping it for an SSD, with your files and Windows copied over, is one of the most worthwhile upgrades you can buy. If the old drive has already failed, ask about laptop data recovery.
